The NWJHL held its Pre-Season meeting this past weekend to prepare for the upcoming season, within the meeting a few key changes were voted in by leagues board of directors.
Playoff format adjusted:
For the first time (unofficially) in league history, a team in the NWJHL will be eliminated from Post Season contention. The top 7 teams will qualify for the playoffs with the 1st place team receiving a bye to the second round. The first round will continue to be a best of 5 with a tweak of scheduling (2-2-1). The second and third round will continue to be a best of 7 with scheduling of (1-1-1-1-1-1-1). The league winner will move on to Provincials held in April hosted by a team in the Heritage Junior Hockey League. The team hosting has not ben announced yet.
League moves to full time 4-Ref system:
With the success of 4-ref system in the playoffs, the league has voted to implement a 4-ref system for the entire NWJHL season. The availability of refs may fluctuate during the season with more leagues being active and some games may revert back to 3-ref.
