I'm back again this year to give updates on the NWJHL season. For those who may be new to these weekly round up articles, it's just ramblings about the league and what's gone on in the past week.
This is the first update given since the season is so new, but lets jump into it.
Sexsmith and Fort St. John remain the only two undefeated teams in the league, Sexsmith edged GP in overtime on the weekend to remain unbeaten. For GP that is their only lost point so far this season. Time will tell but those three teams look poised to battle for the leagues top position once again. The Kodiaks find themselves in familiar territory, after two weeks they sit in 4th, after defeating Beaverlodge the Kodiaks gave up a late goal in the 3rd period to fall to the Vipers.
The Blades are back after a few years out of the league, they got their first win when they knocked off the Navigators in OT and almost got their second win of the season, however falling to the Wheat Kings it OT. Their expansion sibling the La Crete Lumber Barons got their first win also in OT when they beat the Fairview Flyers on Saturday. The Flyers would get revenge on Sunday when they won 3-2 over the Lumber Barons.
Expansion was the hot topic for the league this summer, now that the games are being played its exciting to see these new franchises get their first wins under their belts.
The Navigators are still looking for their first win of the season, they will battle with the Flyers in Fairview on Friday.
